Delegate Statement

We are a collective of African founders & builders part of Borderless Africa. We represent an established community of leading startup founders and builders across 15+ African countries, including magma cohorts, and Borderless Africa participants. We are here to be the voice of builders who are bringing the next billion users to crypto.

As delegates in Scroll, we are committed to Scroll’s mission of “providing equitable access to a globally distributed network of applications and services to everyone, everywhere on our vast planet”.

Our participation in Scroll DAO will focus on:

  1. Bringing informed and experience-based lenses to support Scroll achieve scaled impact Africa - one of the largest crypto markets in the world, and a key market for Scroll priorities.

  2. Advocating for founders and builders in Scroll governance, with a bias towards practical and grounded approaches to grow Scroll. By being a delegate as a collective, we are bringing holistic approaches to attracting and retaining builders & communities in Scroll.

  3. Advocating for continuous alignment to Scroll’s values and mission, as stated here: https://scroll.io/blog/scroll-everyone-everywhere

Builders
Builders
builders are the beating heart of the onchain economy and everyone is potentially a builder. The web itself began as a place where it was possible for everyone to create their own website. For various reasons, this dream fizzled out and we ended up with corporate-controlled walls and feeds. Now, we have the chance to empower a new wave of creativity and to discover together the kinds of incentive structures that can encourage anyone, anywhere to participate rather than just consume.
Community
Community
community is the beings around you, right now. Though any community is enriched by the effort, conduct, hospitality and responsibility of the beings in it, it is not something you have to build, or something that is created through the effort of a few humans looking for their tribe. It is a reciprocal recognition of aliveness in any and every moment. Community is where we practice ubuntu, which is how we realize our innate, individual human-ness at the same time as we recognise how we are inextricably related with others.
Decentralization
Decentralization
decentralization is a nuanced topic. Insofar as it applies to politics and power, we think that any technology which enhances our ability to distribute decisions about how we can live well together to a greater number of people is worth using and defending. Questions of architectural or logical decentralization tend to be context-specific and, while we favor decentralized approaches in most domains, we are not ideologically bound by them and prefer to make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Sustainability
Sustainability
We think resilient, adaptive, dynamic, lively, vital growth occurs in unpredictable ways for which we’ll be watching closely. We aim to help cultivate growth with strong foundations and with diversity, so what we grow has longevity and resilience. The tree with weak roots shoots up fast, but also falls with the first strong wind. So, while we like to see the trees in our forest growing as much as any other human, we also tend to the soil; we pour our love and attention into the living systems underground which we never get to see.
Experimentation
Experimentation
experimentation is a core aspect of the human story: it is how we expand our knowledge and participate meaningfully in the ongoing self-disclosure of reality. Experimentation is the proper application of the mind and, when guided by a search for truth, can yield truly powerful and prosocial results. We therefore place the ongoing search for truth at the heart of all our explorations and make this the yardstick against which we measure the research we participate in and promote.
