Delegate Statement

Open Source Observer

Open Source Observer (OSO) is a public good that helps communities measure impact and improve grant effectiveness. We are primarily concerned with sustainable treasury utilization. We intend to bring a data-driven lens to evaluating proposals and driving network growth.

As our name suggests, we take open source principles seriously. We vote our values. We speak up when we see those values being threatened or undermined. And we expect you to hold us to the same high standards of integrity and transparency.

Team

We are a small team, launched in 2023. Our two cofounders (Carl Cervone and Raymond Cheng) have extensive experience in crypto and grantmaking ecosystems. We previously worked on Hypercerts while at Protocol Labs (also known fpr public goods like libp2p and IPFS). Carl is a data scientist, Gitcoin steward, Optimism badgeholder, and previous founder of a web2 startup. Ray is software engineer, PhD research scientist, Google alum, and previous founder of a privacy-focused L1. In addition to ourselves, we have a growing community of impact data scientists and engineers contributing to our mission.

Disclosures

We are also Optimism delegates.

Top Issues

Builders
Builders
On builders, we care about accelerating open source and developer network effects.
Community
Community
On community, we want to see a big tent, but feel it's important that there be clear pathways for motivating high-impact contributors.
Governance
Governance
On governance, we believe in representation and don't think everyone should be consulted on every issue. It should be easy to get rid of bad ideas.
Decentralization
Decentralization
On decentralization, we accept that this will take time, especially at the "social layer", and the pace should be driven by outcomes rather than arbitrary dates.
